What else happened today
  • 1939 — Nazi Germany invades Poland, setting off the Second World War. Switzerland mobilizes its forces in anticipation of a German invasion that, while extensively planned and much desired by the Nazi high command, never comes (German planners had concluded that success was possible but, due to the near universal arming of the Swiss citizenry, there would be virtually nothing left of the Wehrmacht afterwards).
  • 1989 — Polish inventor and pioneer metallurgist Tadeusz Sendzimir passed away in Jupiter, Florida. His name is given to revolutionary methods of processing steel and metals used in every industrialized nation of the world, including the method of making your milled receiver.
