  • 1969 — A day after murdering Sharon Tate and four others, members of Charles Manson's cult kill Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.
  • 1977 — David "Son of Sam" Berkowitz is arrested in Yonkers NY for a series of killings in the New York City area over the period of one year.
  • 1981 — Six-year old Adam Walsh's head is found in a Vero Beach, Florida, canal; the rest of his remains have never been recovered. Adam's kidnapping and murder prompted his father, John, to become an advocate for victims' rights and helped to spur the formation of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). As a result of his advocacy, he was approached to host the television program America's Most Wanted.
  • 1995 — Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols are indicted for the Oklahoma City bombing. Michael Fortier pleads guilty in a plea-bargain agreement for his testimony.
