The 22-250 is based on the 250-3000 Savage case necked down to .22 caliber and is so named because of the caliber (22) and the parent case (250). BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms. The English company was established in 1861. In 1888 Winchester and the Union Metallic Cartridge Company bought the Remington Arms Company. In 1896 Winchester sold its share but it's unclear why.
