[edit] Summary

A British 60 pounder Mk I battery in action on a cliff top at Cape Helles, Gallipoli, possibly in June 1915. The unit might be the 90th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, located forward of Hill 114. The gun has the inscription "Annie" painted on the barrel.

Photograph by Lt. Ernest Brooks. Published in The War Illustrated, 24 July 1915. Caption reads:

"Annie" in action. Thrilling photograph of a British battery at its deadly work on a sand-ridge in Gallipoli. The gun in the foreground has been christened "Annie" by the gunners, and the name is chalked on the breach. The men are wearing shields attached to the backs of their caps in order to guard them somewhat from the sun's scorching rays.

Imperial War Museum catalogue number Q 13340.
