Pfc. Nick Martin, an M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon machinegunner with Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, provides security as members of his squad pass through a danger area during an urban movement drills at the former military housing complex here Aug. 7 during Training in an Urban Environment Exercise or “TRUEX”. Instructors from the III Marine Expeditionary Force’s Special Operations Training Group supervised the training and provided detailed evaluations and feedback on the MSPF’s performance. In the upcoming weeks, Marines and sailors with the MSPF will be participating in raids and a range of direct action missions in different urban scenarios, to prepare them for a variety of missions they may be called to respond to in overseas urban terrain. The BLT is the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s ground combat element.
